The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. ▫️因为是线上流媒体发布没有上院线，这部长篇肉眼可见透出“预算不太够”的味道…比起这几年已经看习惯了的皮克斯迪士尼大制作，环境建模让我以为这是2010年出品的动画（Sign……稍稍有点可惜了！Pixar第一位长片女性导演加油！未来可期！

几代人认知文化上各种冲突，就算我们都有所顾虑，身负枷锁，但也放开手，新时代的女性是前所未有的美好和生机。儒家千年封建影响，不想让你也变成跟我们一样的人。
东亚女看Turning Red需要一个Trigger Warning，虽然狠狠共情但电影本身真的好俗套普通， 拜托这可是皮克斯。我不需要再看一部完成度较低的《勇敢传说》或者时长增加到100分钟的《包宝宝》。

不愧是你 皮克斯。断奶真的对父母和子女来说都是难事。其实我们都不用说对不起。我喜欢那只红色的小熊猫，我不会让它消失。
出乎意料的好看。形象设计、剧本创意和对亚洲家庭关系的剖解都很有意思，后半段名场面频出，观影体验爆表，不愧是皮克斯。
ABC自我认同感的阵痛，熟悉又无熟悉，认同又无认同。
很可爱很搞笑，但我却看得直落泪。我们女性一直需要做自我规训，剥离老天送给自己的礼物，变成为他人着想，失去自我的生物。尽管有些桥段看得我觉得尴尬，但我仍旧认为，我们海外华人群体，终于能慢慢站在舞台中央，开始讲述属于我们的故事，属于华人女性的故事。我们一代又一代地成长，终于学会接纳自我的每一面。东亚女性的故事，用这样一种不那么严肃负担的方式讲述，是我未曾想过的，却也是出人意料的好。女性成长的烦恼，并不会随着年岁的增长而消失，我们那部分被男权称为“歇斯底里”的部分，是老祖宗送给我们的礼物。接受她就好，接受自己就好，为自己骄傲，爱自己的“红”，爱自己每一面。
亚洲女性专供，只有亚洲女性会把自己 powerful 的一面在青春期由全家人做法给封印起来。这动画片，亚洲女人自由行第一课。

变身后的“乖萌”、“可爱”，只是小美漫长人生中的灵光一现，所谓“留住心中的野兽”也只是一个梦。东亚文化的成人礼，就是被家人合力做法抽去灵魂，表面温良恭俭让，内在戾气大爆炸。我们最终都会变成李安，只能在电影中释放内心的猛虎。

总体挺一般的，看个乐子不错.难以置信的是，这部评分居然能和《雄狮少年》差不多，大家未免对国漫太严苛，对迪士尼太包容了点……
