The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it?     三星半。是边缘人乡巴佬对美国梦的消解，无处不在的性格侧写和土法精神分析透示着上世纪40年代的美国人困在初始的父权制资本主义里，他们中的多数会用一生去疗伤，投射到电影里就是一个又一个不惜欺骗自己的“可怜人”，所以不光是男主角斯坦用存在主义消解美国梦，一般人也在这样的体系里自欺欺人。技术层面还是抓人的，前一小时的马戏团像是陀螺的个人趣味秀，优秀的美术和摄影创造出一个残酷又美丽的嘉年华。但是也拖慢了电影的节奏，甚至出现了很多无用角色，这也造成了虚假高潮和无用伏笔的问题，不过最后更改了原著结局，让电影“noir性”十足的同时，也告别了过去那种天真到有些不切实际的男女关系，也算没有白翻拍。

    没看过原版，但Cooper和大魔王对手戏有点东西，所以后半段i住。前半段马戏团的剧情太长了，废戏挺多，删个半小时就好了

    7.0 production design是一脉相承的作者性，在细枝末节的角落里创造了很多诡异的奇观符号，可主线完全抹去了原作的神秘主义符号而着重于迂腐而俗套的精神分析，甚至把stan设计了一个随波逐流的懦弱小人，可能是陀螺自己都不相信库神这样的气质拥有任何妖言惑众的能力，只能把他放在若有若无的二战背景之中，被凯特·布兰切特和鲁妮·玛拉生吃活剥。
