Arkham, 1975: Jonathan Davis' father has disappeared. His tracks lead to Germany, to the Swabian-Franconian Forest where he was stationed after the Second World War. brutashell review - 'Filmed in black and white and primarily spoken in German, it is obvious that Die Farbe did not have a huge budget to work with. Effects are minimal and the cast is utterly unknown. I should point out that these are all good things, and work very much in the film's favour. There is no CGI to rely on, no name actors to carry it. Rather, the filmmakers do the unthinkable: they create a genuine atmosphere of unimaginable dread and unspeakable horror, using shadow, suggestion and rare splashes of that Nameless colour in a few select frames. In short, they did a damn good job. Die Farbe is subtle in its mounting horror, nurturing a dark dread deep in your bowels with every shot. All of the best and most stomach-turningly distressing films I’ve ever seen have come out of Germany: M, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, The White Ribbon, and now this one. Leave it to the Germans. We know how to gross you out on the deepest psychological levels.
Lovecraft worshippers and devotees of German Expressionism alike, take heed: seek out and view this film at your earliest possible convenience. It’s a dark, noisome little gem that will squirm into your subconscious and lay its eggs in your sanity. Hey, not everyone gets the honour of being a host organism for the Elder Gods, you know.'

为玛吉处女作鼓掌。初看感觉是一部很情绪的电影，情节也会比较松散，但一直被吸引着往下看。虽然没有做过妈妈，但很能代入女主，被生活琐事、人生选择和身份责任种种困扰着的折磨，学术的思考不可能不对日常的生活产生影响，不可能不让人去质疑日常生活的意义而甘愿于不假思索的惯性。女性的纠结在于社会对于你有很多默认的期待，默认的opt in而不是对于男生默认的opt out，比如成为母亲。要从默认调回中立再做自由选择这一步不可能在实际中不产生任何负担，即使自己可以，周围的人也不一定可以，这和学识都没有关系，可能就是没有意识，例如电影中的大师。丢失的女儿、母亲、妻子、娃娃其实都不重要，都可以丢掉。我们总是在做错误的选择，但真的学会承认这点很难。不原谅自己和折磨他人都是容易的。看了电影再次确认我实在没法成为妈妈。
1. 近来看到的反思motherhood的最佳文本，写出了女性和母亲之间的化学关系，作为人的自私、欲望、贪婪，作为母亲的无私、无欲、无求，而我们常常只看到后一点。2. 过去与现在的交叉剪辑，两个母亲之间的互文都增加了文本的丰富性。特写的大量使用使得文本深入情感的细微处。3. 非常精彩地通过一个玩偶制造出一个混沌的空间，营造了一种无法解释但又合乎情理的惊悚感，在当今的话语里，做母亲似乎可以成为一件惊悚的事情。
当代女性永远的困境，在身为人母和自我实现双重身份中的困惑和迷失，是属于女导演的细腻和破碎。女主表演、bgm都太加分。
看了几个影评，仍然没怎么看懂…但是配乐超级好，很喜欢。

NYFF59 沉浸式的母职体验让人透不过气
演而优则导的吉伦哈尔家姐姐的处女作及格了。现时和回忆双线叙事的剧本结构虽不新鲜，但很考校节奏。奥莉维亚的演技着实了得，以至于年长的女主戏明显比年轻时更好看。话说这片不该加个「犯罪」标签吗？

不知道为什么，看到 “im a selfish mother”还是哭了出来
几处略微重点刻画的女性的对视，都….，那种“我有些事想告诉你”的神情，在眼白的反光中闪耀，耀目到观众有点坐立不安….但剧作上我还有许多地方未想明白….

多线叙事，精妙的细节，But丢失是双向的，失去了女儿，母亲也就迷失了。
观影体验其实是挺suffocating的。片中女儿的尖叫哭闹声，一大家人彼此的纷争和冲突，他人眼中若隐若现的敌意和恶意，来自各方的束缚等等，都让本人觉得极其压抑。
但该作品却比“那不勒斯四部曲”后两部对身为人母之后的展现更令人恐惧。。。。
气质独特，以一种Observer方式闯入，化解方式也如海浪搁浅冲塌，没有无因的焦虑~
始终尾随的男性 及男性的女性帮凶 严密审视和监控着异己的眼睛 猎巫的眼睛/见到碎片重影 日渐浮软的皮肉与全副铠甲下受苦的心:无法和解但仍应庆祝你
影片的故事在逻辑上便有很大的漏洞，情绪浮于表面，以致导演刻意营造的中年女性的焦虑感难以成立
