The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 4.5。开头半小时恍惚以为是在看法国电影，那种大胆有趣的剪辑十分出色。但越往后看越觉得悲凉，在理想覆灭后，我们怀着欣悦奔赴向死亡。
非常密集的台词，以至于刚开始十五分钟不停的在倒回重看。非常“高效”的一场会议，充分体现出德国人的严谨，把1100万犹太人安排的明明白白，看的人毛骨悚然。
他们像是在讨论如何处理一千多万工厂残次品 而不是人
用了很多特别的拍摄技巧，后半和前半对比起来显得有些普通了，结尾真是非常有余味。

是汤姆希林主演的巴比伦柏林剧场版特别集，还是《啊，男孩》的纳粹前夜版？都不是，但似乎又都是。
我看不懂，但好美，喜欢所有的画面。晃动的镜头，跳舞的俱乐部，床上的两人，朋友死后的烟花，穿插的黑白叙述......工作没了，爱人走了，朋友死了，最后人总是要有家可回的。

Fabian就像身边已经为数不多的颓丧的文艺中年，郁郁不得志，又放不下自尊，本质是善良的，但爱情还是败给了金钱。放到当今的时代里，这一切的始作俑者当然也可能不是他本人，而是历史。
可哪怕这样，依然坚持这该死的自尊，伤痕累累。
确实是“不合时宜的人”。摄影满分，色彩极佳。最近看的片子越来越像自己，做不了婊子又要立牌坊，抛不开撒不下，自欺能力强到登天，肯为五斗米折腰，活到最后也没输出像样的价值，人就在这样的状态中行步入中年。活着究竟为了什么？
晚上困得紧，看了两小时睡了一会才起来接着看完
导演还是差点意思，影片的艺术性基本在台词上，虽然思想高度足以5星，最终只能4星
台词是《爱在三部曲》暗黑版，镜头和《梦之安魂曲》一样迷幻，男主是《阿飞正传》德国进口，汤姆希林身上有一股詹美和戴涵涵影子。

汤姆希林这是第几次扮演一个 二战前后的文艺反战青年？4比3加上复古的画质我明白导演是想更好的刻画年代感 但是这种做法我是不赞同的 太投机取巧了
