The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 不仅仅是同性家庭会遇到婚后几十年，爱情被消磨殆尽，何去何从的问题，所有家庭都有这样的困境。青少年的性向、友谊、爱情，那么多不确定和承诺、责任，与中年人的困境遥相呼应，而形成他们后来地复杂局面，不也是青葱年少时光的产物吗？也有社会问题，性少数群体组建的家庭，怎么写出生证，也是一个争议不断的话题，尽管生养都有责任，但也仅仅是一部分人需要考虑的问题。后面的反转非常有趣，深化了主题。
家庭的基础是爱，而非血缘。

三星半。很日常很温暖的家庭剧，或许有点狗血但生活总需要点甜味。
