The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 眼镜妹子好美！很多情节如果能再把镜头拉长一点，情感更饱满一点就好了。。。AND本无神论者在那样一个小镇可能连一天都待不下去。。。
放在暑期档，它好过今年所有青春片。但挪到国庆档，被大片夹击下就显得困境重重。全片看下来，笑声不断、泪点直击，5个少年的纯粹和自然，在当下国产片中属于惊喜之作，没有堕胎等狗血情节，拍出了国产青春励志片应有的样子，而它不该只有这点评分和票房。全国最重名的队长张伟，窝囊又软弱，出淤泥而染全身，基本功和绝活都离他很远。但当他在医院自责痛哭流涕说“我就想练花泳，太南了，我这个队长没当好”时，慈母心突然泛滥，心疼死。最后腾空而跃的后空翻，就像莲花出世的哪吒一样灿烂发光。平凡的少年，生活再不好不坏、不上不下，但孤独的路上一定有风，不是只有惊天动地才辉煌。看不到太多日本原版的影子，感触是另一部《跳出我天地》。“蝈蝈妈”可以笑一年。

究竟为什么2022年了还要拍这种压抑的，隐忍的女同性恋爱情…身为一个姬佬，在我眼里，这两个人真的一点火花都没有。女同性恋什么时候能换个形象出现在大屏幕上？

我不反感宗教，我反感的是存天理灭人欲😃我真的是接受无能……困惑、愤怒到了最后还是心酸无奈，觉得很可悲。为J感到心痛！小孩出现的那一瞬间我真的昏厥了

这片看得我ptsd了😅这什么魔鬼现实剧情，撩完又选择结婚生子又吃回头草/想不清楚人生又什么都想要的人离单纯小姬佬远一点！！

看得没有太大波澜，宗教部分让我感到窒息，我不理解那样荒唐的信仰。
气氛电影，但我永远会为女孩子之间的subtle感动
为两位女主多加一星，张力好足啊！特别是Jaime，一身黑的穿搭好酷！好爱好爱好爱。车后座的手牵手、电影院拥抱、学弹钢琴、走在波光粼粼的湖边、一起编织手链，女本子电影元素已集齐。依旧不太理解宗教，为避免痛哭流涕开启大脑自动模糊模式，有些部分难以共情。私心希望她们抓住好时光，快走。“Not gonna let me go?”
当你相信的东西明显束缚你的时候为什么还要自欺欺人呢？宗教洗脑太可怕了，就是骗女性牺牲自己的人生去繁衍后代。

自从cmbyn以后，好像所有的同性故事都有点离不开这个框架了。一个平稳的小故事，不过宗教在其中起的作用倒是少见，而且是一种个人的虔诚选择。
没被发现前，每一次亲热我都提心吊胆！好怕被发现后，被那些信徒以宗教之名对她们进行迫害、扭转治疗、驱魔仪式等手段。还好剧情走向不是如此😭俩人的情感戏好有张力……
