The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 真佩服东木大叔，91岁的高龄了还在大屏幕上奋战，开头的镜头掌控太拿人了，我必须珍惜，看一部少一部了。墨西哥人民的正义感也很强烈嘛，看到虐待孩子的人，上来就按在那群殴，孩子妈的二货手下叫人帮忙反而坑了自己，笑死我了。不过喜欢东木是一回事，但就这个片子而言，像一杯非常淡的柠檬水，固然说东木和小男主的演技都没问题，但剧情确实太单调了，即使我认真的看完了，这片子也没必要再看了。我给3星6.7分，删掉了！
老爷子是不是就想过一下戏瘾？不管怎样，希望继续拍下去吧。

平心而论真的很“平淡无奇”，情节也是非常“俗不可耐”的一部片子，其中对于冲突的温柔简洁处理想来却算是对自己“力不从心”的一种别样阐述了，无论戏里戏外亦是如此。但再怎么说东木导演90多了还能坚持拍片，有这种精力也确实是令人敬佩的。
这无疑是老爷子的谢幕之作，等于说是一部西部版“完美的世界”。从上个世纪炙手可热的好莱坞巨星，再到独具一格的电影巨匠，东木老爷子经历了太多坎坷，其中最艰难的是和好莱坞的右派势力斗争，可现在电影里，他呈现的是迟暮和衰老，或许他真的应该休息了。
戏里戏外好像都在说这部电影将成为老牛仔的遗作。牛仔消失了，美国土地上生活的人还变成了墨西哥移民。克林特伊斯特伍德之后再无美利坚...
温馨公路片，但有点太平了，老头子这么大年龄了还在骑马（假的）就有点假，后面遇到酒馆老板娘一家人那里很温馨。
6.5 / 所以应该翻译成「猛男落泪」哈哈哈～其实比起伍迪，东木更像电影界的活化石，靠持续不断的产出，努力证明着自己宝刀未老。最近的这几部，每一部都在诉说着自己的坚强、对子女的亏欠，以及不愿被人忘却的那份心底的柔情。
剧本很烂，老爷子老态龙钟谈不上啥演技，就当风景片看看吧，没什么意思。
至2014年泽西男孩之后 ，媒体普遍认为老爷子会彻底隐退 ，告别影坛 。紧接着又拍了萨利机长和骡子高评分作品 。虽然紧随而来又拍了几部稍显平淡作品 ，但对老爷子的敬意与日俱增 ，对生命只有一次做了最佳的诠释 ！

电影很工整，美墨边境完全成了老爷子大片的背景板，特别是有些部分是直接能拿去当广告的程度，在这方面东木还是游刃有余，故事上就偏平淡了，每次危机来临就瞬间结束，加上年事已高，驯马镜头也用了替身，不过老爷子的状态是真的好啊！
做为男二: 拉福完全失败。选角，剧本，人设表演全面垮塌。
平静舒缓的叙事节奏，流淌出淡淡人生的心灵之旅，对老东木不能再苛求什么，唯愿他身体无恙，能够拍出自己想拍的任何作品。
剧情各方面很一般。老爷爷90岁自导自演真的是厉害。今后应该不会再出来拍戏了吧
91岁的东木老爷子绝对是世界上最后一个真正的牛仔。。。但最孤峭的身躯也敌不过时间。90岁又骑马又拳击又泡妞，反而拳拳挥空，让故事看起来好假。。而且这片子节奏叙事乃至细节也均不在老爷子正常水准之列
一星是给这个年纪还奋斗在电影圈子的东木爷子
7/10 垂垂老矣的《完美的世界》，冲突不再明显，故事不再犀利，但细腻的情感转变都可以清楚的看得见。老东木的西部公路片玩了一辈子，就算看到现在依然细腻的有味道。
